Education, culture and history are just three of the areas that led Glen Ridge to be ranked “12th Best Place to Live” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine in 2012. It is nestled between Bloomfield and Montclair. One of its most prominent historical features is the gas lamps that light the streets. Glen Ridge is a residential town with minimal parking issues or traffic congestion, but with plenty of commuting convenience. The Glen Ridge NJ transit train station is en route to Hoboken and Manhattan and boasts a short ride into NYC. The town’s jitney service shuttles residents between designated spots in town and the train station before 9:00 am and between 4:30 and 8:00 pm. New Jersey Transit buses provide service to Newark on the #11, #28 and #29 lines. Highways such as the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, US Route 46 and I-280 are minutes away.

Glen Ridge is known for its architectural diversity. Nearly 73% of all buildings were built before 1939 and renowned architects, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, made their mark in Glen Ridge. Today, there are a variety of observable structures from days gone by such as Carpenter Gothic, Tudor and “Queen Anne’s Cottage.” Nearly 85% of homes in Glen Ridge are single unit residences and the median house price is $572,500.

Culturally Glen Ridge is proud of its community volunteer groups the Gas Lamp Players (a theater company), the Freeman Rose Gardens and the Glen Ridge Senior-Community Center. The Glen Ridge Public Library provides free passes to museums such as The Guggenheim and Montclair Art Museum. The town’s recreation department further coordinates multiple cultural and athletic programs for residents.
